Mardi Gras Mayhem

All around the world, for thousands of years, the celebration of Mardi Gras has taken place. Whether you are thrilled just to be a part of the excitement or you know the real meaning behind all of the bead throwing, mask wearing, or parade watching – Mardi Gras is a tradition unlike any other.

Mardi Gras is French for “Fat Tuesday”, the time of eating rich and fatty foods before practicing in the Christian season of Lent. The annual event dates back thousands of years and has evolved into one of the most widely celebrated holidays on a global scale. This year the official Mardi Gras will be taking place on March 5th, but celebrations will start way in advance.

More than 150 years ago marked the first Mardi Gras celebration in Galveston, Texas. A few years later, the first large-scale celebration was held which entailed parades, masked balls, and extravagant costumes. As the years have gone by the parties have only gotten bigger and better, with one of the best only days away from now. The 108th celebration of Mardi Gras!
